The Half Bath Revamp……Modern Farmhouse Style

As most of you know, I am huge lover of decorating with neutrals. I love them for so many reasons, the main reason for me personally is that they are very calming. Sometimes when life gets super crazy there nothing better for me mentally than to go home to a calm color environment. With that being said I have worked hard to create this environment in my home and I have been pretty successful, except involving the bathrooms  (insert crying face here) we painted both when we moved in but we were unable to do any other improvements. I was however finally successful in convincing (or mentally wearing down) my husband to allow me to put my years worth of searching on Pinterest for my dream bathroom inspirations to good use. He FINALLY said yes to a half bath revamp!!!

A bit of backstory the original builders of our home had amazing taste with a huge artistic flair. When we first looked at the house I remember thinking it felt like I was in an art exhibit, it was seriously so cool. However once the previous owners had moved out, my husband and I quickly realized that, wild colors were not our style. So the main reason this bathroom, literally would make me cringe when walking into it, it had red small tile all over the vanity as opposed to a normal countertop, and we all know red is not a neutral (insert distraught face).

On the original design plan of the bathroom, I actually based it all around a floating vanity that I found online for steal. Well sadly once it arrived I knew it was too good to be true. It was really not very good quality and I knew it would be sooner rather than later that it would need to be replaced. After talking with our contractor we decided to use a local builder to custom build a piece out of reclaimed wood. The completed vanity turned out better than I ever could have imagined and since we used a local builder the price was pretty close to the original online vanity. So definitely calling this mess up a win! Which was good because I had a very strict budget to stick too (insert picture of my husband frowning ).

So vanity-check, perfect sconces with an industrial flair-check, budget friendly porcelain tile from Lowes laid herringbone pattern to give it some style-check, and the final touch to help complete the modern farmhouse look SHIPLAP!! Due to the budget we were only able to install on the main wall, but one wall is definitely better than no walls!

Once the half bath was complete I wanted to keep the décor neutral with some flair. I had been drooling over all the vintage rugs I was seeing everywhere and since this was a small area, a vintage rug score off Etsy was perfect for the space. My next need was some art with a modern flair. I was so excited when I discovered Jenny’s Print Shop on Instagram. Jenny’s Print Shop is a digital print shop where all original, high resolution prints are just $15-$20 each. Immediately after making your purchase you will be emailed a link that allows you to download your images to your computer and then print them however you want! No need to pay for expensive framing with limited sizes and finish options. You have complete flexibility to use the images the way you want to  This was perfect for m since at the time I wasn’t sure how large I wanted my art to be. She currently has over 50 original art prints listed. I ended up choosing the POPPIES and HYCINTH prints. I fell in love with both, they are actually two art pieces out of a set of three created by artist Lynne Millar. I ended up having the art framed in the Floating Wood Gallery Frame in black from Pottery Barn. Finally the last needed piece was a tad difficult to find because the open vanity left a rather unsightly pipe showing and I needed 2 baskets just the right size to help camouflage it. I couldn’t believe my luck when I stumbled across the perfect ones on McGee and Co. It was my first order from them and I was really impressed in the prompt shipping and packing of the items! Finally the last few touches were some adorable Turkish hand towels and a wooden ladder to hold them!

I seriously cant believe that this is my bathroom, I am in still in the phase of trying to redirect my boys from using it, because you know boys and bad aiming!! If only I could just talk my sweet hubby into doing the master now! Haha, I guess beggars can’t be choosers so I am just going to keep my mouth shut for the next six months or so!!
